Independent Study

During 2012-2013 semester, I joined Dr. Wang’s independent study group about Indoor Positioning Technology. This technology is to help users to locate their position inside a building. The general GPS can only navigate the location without barriers in between satellites and the object, and the signal will be significantly attenuated inside a building. We used acoustic source to find the position in 3D. The basic idea is to use microphone to produce a signal and received by several speakers. Then do the cross-correlation of those signals to figure out the time delay. Since we know the speed of sound in the air, we can find out the relative distance, and then figured out the 3D location based on the 3D positioning algorithm. My duties include: calculating input power, searching 3D positioning algorithm, and Matlab simulation.
